Trucker helps put out fire

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — A passing truck driver is being commended for preventing a disaster after he helped extinguish a fire at a Ford dealership here on Friday.

An electrical fire began behind a sign at the dealership, and trucker Richard Gaudet saw the fire as he drove by on 132 Avenue. Gaudet parked his rig, grabbed a fire extinguisher from his truck and began fighting the flames while fire crews were on their way to the scene.

“I started to get it on the one side, but the other side was too far away for me to reach,” a humble Gaudet tells local media.

City firefighters say the trucker was instrumental in slowing the spread of the fire, which could have been much worse.
