CALGARY, Alta. — A long-haul truck driver is fighting for his life at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, after he was stabbed repeatedly by a hitchhiker.

The driver was found bleeding in the laundry room at the Road King Truck Stop in Calgary.

“The trucker picked up a hitcher from Wisconsin,” Nichole Kruse, 17, a truck stop employee told local media. “The hitcher then stabbed (the trucker) six times in the cab of his truck.”

Police found a knife at the scene and were looking for a swamper.

“We know we had a swamper and he’s missing. Now, whether he’s just visiting, or off for the night we don’t know — or it could be the suspect,” said Insp. Keith Pollock. One person was in custody, but Pollock said it was not clear if he was a witness or suspect.
