ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. — RCMP are advising road users to be extra careful when travelling in Newfoundland after a rash of approximately 20 moose-related collisions.
The majority of the collisions were reported last week and took place on the Trans-Canada Highway between St. John’s and Port aux Basques, prompting warning to drivers to slow down after dark.
There were no human fatalities or major injuries reported as a result of the incidents although most of the moose struck either died on impact or were put down a short time after.
Police say the moose were out in great numbers on the roads, possibly because of the heat and swarming insect populations in the bush.
