OAKVILLE, Ont. — ProKleen, which bills itself as Canada’s only full-service commercial food grade tank wash facility, has been purchased by US-based Quala.

Quala provides IBC and bulk transportation services as well as sustainable container solutions.

“The purchase of ProKleen is a strong strategic move for us at this time as we continue to expand our North American footprint,” said Mike Bauer, CEO of Quala. “Acquiring ProKleen with a strong reputation and solid customer base is consistent with our growth strategy moving into 2014. As we expand, we want to maximize our service offerings to existing customers by strategically moving into new markets with new and enhanced services.”

ProKleen has facilities in Oakville and Concord, Ont. Both are committed to sustainable initiatives, including grey water usage, digestion tanks, replacement of toxic cleaners with more environmentally friendly defoamers and acids and the use of flocculent clay blends with filters to reduce and clean effluent going into the waste stream.

“This is an exciting time for Quala,” said president Terry O’Brien. “The ProKleen acquisition allows us to continue expanding our national footprint, while enhancing the services provided by the previous owners, with increased focus on safety, environmental stewardship and service metrics. The addition of these two facilities expands our customer base, while offering existing customers access to the most robust facility network in the industry.”
