Wabco unveils OnGuardACTIVE collision mitigation system

by Sonia Straface

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Wabco has revealed its most advanced collision mitigation system (CMS) for trucks this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The new system, OnGuardACTIVE, features superior radar capabilities and works well under all seasons and weather conditions. The system alerts the driver to save them from potentially critical situations on the road though both acoustic and visual signals.

“OnGuardACTIVE is our most advanced mitigation system to date,” said Nik Varty, Wabco president, Americas. “OnGuardACTIVE provides active braking on moving, stopping and stationary objects. It provides superior object detection. And with 30% longer and wider range, this radar is able to help the driver and vehicle anticipate impeding situations earlier and manage them more effectively.”

The company describes the latest system as “all-seasons” because of the technology’s ability to perform under extreme weather conditions like heavy rain, thick fog, and blinding sunshine, where other systems’ radars may be impaired. That’s because the new system uses a 77 GHz radar sensor, which is more than five times higher bandwidth than standard 24 GHz radar systems available in the market.

“Rain or shine, foggy or clear, drivers constantly travel on America’s roads,” Varty added. “ They need a system that works as hard as they do to keep them and their vehicles safe whatever the season.”

The company also noted that more than 80,000 OnGuard systems have been sold in North America so far, making it the highest selling CMS in the continent.
