HARRY ASKS, HOW MUCH SHOULD A DRIVER MAKE?

Our on-road editor Harry Rudolfs asks the question in his Trucknews.com blog, how much should truckers make? How much is enough and how much is too much? Is there such thing as too much?

In the process, he rakes wasteful government teat-suckers such as Mike Duffy over the coals. How much should a driver make? Check out his blog and weigh in. I’ll be watching this discussion with much interest.

  • Any driver driving today, should be paid for every minute or hour he or she works whether, on a pre trip, waiting at a dock, Breakdown , delay time, etc. No more free time driver,s stick together on this issue, If you drive to the U.S. and reset while there you pay all your own expenses without any compensation from your employer, they will also want you to take the risk of over running your logs to get their, the penalties fall on you not them.

  • it is unfortunate that many so called trucking companies do not pay all the hours that a driver puts in, whether it is post and pre trip, tarping , waiting to be loaded or unloaded, border crossings , etc. or fail to pay in accordance with either the federal or provincial labor laws , but try to play on the ignorance of the common driver not represented by unions about what is legally due to him which is paid for all hours of work preformed . When the new hours of service came into effect in 2002 ? , by the party in power ( Liberals ?) it was bad enough that driver’s took a hit on their standard of living by 10% as they changed the overtime rules to be paid from 50 hrs to 60 hrs along with other minor nuances. driver’s are professionals responsible for cargo’s worth millions of dollars on each load ( booze, computers, etc. ) along with the lives of the public and should be paid in accordance , not macdonald,s wages
