“Hi! My name is Rene Guit and I drive a tanker for Keith Hall & Sons Transport out of Burford, Ont. I’ve been driving for five years now and haul mostly liquid foods like sucrose, fructose, molasses and chocolate, which I run mostly within Ontario’s borders. Prior to truck driving, I used to own a business and I actually used to do a bit of telemarketing while living on a boat! I live in Paris, Ont. a rural area by the river where I like to go sailing when I’m not driving. I also teach and play tennis fairly competitively.

I have three children, aged 16, 22 and 26, who I like to take on the road with me whenever I can.

I got into trucking shortly after I sold my business at a franchise show. I decided to give it a try as it’s been something I’ve always wanted to do.

I like to read Truck News whenever I pop in at a truck stop. I always like to read articles that focus on the individual drivers and their lives. I’d much rather read a trucker profile than hear about the industry’s latest legislation.

I really don’t have many beefs with the industry except one: the one thing they don’t teach in training schools is the reality of being behind the wheel. When a young guy in his early 20s gets his licence, he gets out on the road and thinks this is the greatest. But he doesn’t realize the reality of the industry. Like when you have to go to the washroom, you can’t just pull into a Tim Horton’s and go – it’s a major ordeal.

Or when you have to sleep with a baseball bat beside at certain stops because it’s not safe. The hours drivers sometimes have to put in can be exhausting as well. I’d like to go back to the driving schools and teach a course these types of realities.”

  • This was my dad. He loved and devoted himself to his job. He is forever missed by his 3 children. He died May 8 2009 of cancer. When I saw this ad before he passed I was so proud that he was noticed and mentioned myself and my brother and sister. I know we were his life. And to this day I will never forget the journeys we all spent on the road with him as he did his job. We watched the sun set and rise together as we drove. He was always happy to have us there to keep him company throughout his way. God has him now and is keeping him safe. I wish I could have done the same years ago when I knew he was sick. Like is said the last time we spoke, you will always be in my heart dad. Love and miss you and know you would have loved these words.
