BRAMPTON, Ont. — Bramalea Secondary School in Brampton, Ont. is launching a truck and coach program for Grade 9 students interested in careers in transportation.

The Brampton Guardian reports the program will be the first of its kind in the area. The school will host a public information night Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. to inform students and parents about the program and the many careers available in the transportation industry.

The new program will prepare students for an existing Specialist High Skills Major program in transportation aimed at Grade 11 students, the Guardian reports.

A new facility is being built specifically for the transportation program. It will feature drive-through bays, an open lab and two computer-equipped classrooms.

“Having owned and operated a trucking company before returning to a career in education, I know first-hand the opportunities that exist in the industry – in fact, our area of Ontario is the highest-density transportation corridor in the province,” vice-principal Peter Gibson told the Guardian. “Our program will appeal to students who are active learners, like hands-on assignments and enjoy courses that take them outside a traditional classroom.”

  • Yanke Group of Companies attended last night’s meeting at the Bramalea High School and met with Mr. Peter Gibson. We were very impressed with the presentation and wish him and all their student the very best with this up and developing program for students. “Peter Gibson is seeing into the future for all students and in the years ahead for a productive course of goals and achievementsof his students”. As a Recruiter we are looking at trying to fill trucks now, to move the product now, to fix trucks now and we need to look long and hard into the future of trucking and see who will keep this industry moving stong and proud for years to come.

Yanke Group wants to let Bramalea High School and Mr. Gibson know that we love the concept they are pursuing in technology, mechanics, and engineering for the future in trucking and he has our fullest support.
