OTA concerned about new Ontario biodiesel requirement

TORONTO, Ont. — The province of Ontario has announced a new biodiesel mandate, which will require a 2% biofuel component in on- and off-road diesel beginning in April 2014, and ramping up to 4% in 2015.

The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) said it will be raising concerns about the new requirement with the province.

It has until December to raise issues with the new requirement, and to outline any impact the new rule could have on the industry. The OTA says it questions the need for a biodiesel requirement, in light of new greenhouse gas emissions reductions that are being achieved by vehicle OEMs beginning in 2014.

“Following the consultations, OTA expects the government to make a final decision in the early new year about moving forward with a mandate, potentially leaving fuel suppliers with little time to react in the event the proposal is in fact implemented in April 2014,” the association said in a release.

  • With any luck the NDP will come to their senses and stop propping up the lying Liberals. Then we can have an election and through every last Ontario Liberal out on their asses!

  • These Politicians are just a pain. they have no idea what biodiesel may or may not do to the very expensive fuel systems on todays Diesels. Government had no idea what Ethanol would do to the gasoline engine fuel system. I repair carburetors on boats and cars. Ethanol has been causing havoc with carbs. Ethanol destroys carburetor seals and Ethanol also has an affinity for water. Not good in a boat fuel tank. What do they care as its not their boat.

they don’t care what biodiesel may do to our fuel systems. The past has taught us that all this new emission technology has cost the trucking industry millions in repair and maintenance due to the premature introduction of this crap. the Politician will be the first to cry foul if a bottle of booze goes up in price due to shipping cost. Shipping has to go up as do the fuel prices and no doubt fuel price will increase when biodiesel hits the pumps. If government wants to do something very valuable, scrap the Emissions testing and start doing yearly mechanical safety testing on cars every year. Leave the fuel alone!!!!

  • I do not understand the purpose or push of BIO DIESEL as the way i see it we are using valuable farm food and feed production land to produce this product. Is it not bad enough we convert prime farm land into Housing and Cities, now you want to take more of it to make PHONIE FUEL ???
