Humber College to host Trucking Career Day

by Truck News

TORONTO, Ont. – Humber College is inviting those looking for a career in trucking and transportation to its Trucking Career Day on January 30.

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Humber Centre for Trades and Technology, 24 recruiters representing Canadian trucking companies will be on hand at the event to discuss their employment opportunities and the qualifications needed for the job. Recruiters include Canada Post, Challenger Motor Freight, Gordon Food Service, Kriska Transportation, GFL Environmental and more.

“It takes more than a driver’s licence to get a job as a professional commercial driver,” said Rick Mikula, program liaison officer at Humber. “It takes the right combination of skill, knowledge and the ability to perform during a pre-employment test. In the trucking industry they don’t hire a driver’s licence to drive the truck, they hire a person. At Humber we are in the business of developing people to meet the needs of the industry.”

Humber offers commercial driver driving for licence class G to AZ (tractor-trailer), G to DZ (straight truck), and DZ to AZ (tractor-trailer from straight truck licence).

The Humber Centre for Trades and Technology is located at 110 Carrier Drive in Etobicoke, Ont.

For more information about the event, call  416-798-0300, e-mail truck.info@humber.ca or visit www.humber.ca/trucking.
