AMTA begins search for new boss
BANFF, Alta. — The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is looking for a replacement for its executive director.
According to incoming AMTA president Dean Paisley, the current executive director, Mayne Root, will be leaving his post at the end of the year. Paisley made the announcement shortly after taking over the gavel from outgoing president Richard Warnock at the group’s Annual General Meeting, held during its 2010 Management Conference at the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff over the weekend.
“We’ve got some challenges ahead,” Paisley said early in his initial address as president, noting that they’re going to “put the past presidents to work” looking for someone to take over Root’s duties.
“They’re going to be huge shoes to fill,” Paisley said while recognizing Root’s contributions. Paisley added he expects the AMTA will see the former E.D. “very much” regardless of his retirement. Paisley also thanked Root, to the accompaniment of much applause from those gathered, for “An excellent job.”

I’ve had the great fortune to work with Mayne for the past three years. Dean Paisley is correct in noting Mayne filled some pretty big shoes both within Alberta and across Canada with other Truck Transport associations, and the industry in general. Never one to shy away from hard work or helping others (like me!), Mayne’s contributions to truck transportation will live on for years to come.
