Calgary shop reduces labour rate for new fleet customers

CALGARY, Alta. — A Calgary heavy-duty repair shop is offering a reduced labour rate for first-time fleet customers as a way of helping them manage the difficult economic environment.

J&W Mechanical and J&W Mobile Fleet Services of Calgary are offering a reduced labour rate of $75 per hour (normally $89.50/hour) for first-time fleet customers with five or more trucks and trailers.

“As the economic times are not so great and we hear truckers and companies say all the time they are not working and can not afford to get their trucks fixed, we decided as a shop that we would reduce our rate for first time customers to $75 per hour to get them in our door and show them that we can do their trucks and trailers quicker and cheaper than just about any other shop, even when the rate is $89.50 per hour,” J&W president Susan White told Trucknews.com.

The family-run repair shop has been in business for more than 10 years and serves more than 3,100 clients, the company says. The company specializes in engine rebuilds and diagnostics, transmissions, drive lines, brakes, welding, fabrication, wiring, suspension, differentials, hydraulics, tires, tire repair and supply, diesel engine repair.

  • When I first met with Susan and her her team at J&W Mechanical Fleet Services, I was immediately impressed by their friendliness and professionalism towards the customers that came in.

As a truck equipment dealer supplying PTOs, hydraulics, driveline as well as the larger equipment, I go into many places that require the products we provide and must confess that the number of customers lined up for simple repair jobs or inspections is amazing. In and out service, keeping trucks on the road so the operator can continue to make a living. The comments I’ve heard (unsolicitied) from their customers is “Best service, best price, great people.” And as a casual observer, the relationships they’ve built with their customers would seem inseverable.

For a smaller shop, the volume of traffic they push through would make an owner of a larger shop turn green with envy. Loyalty, driven by quality and price must be their formula.

There are other quality heavy duty repair shops in Calgary, and I would recommend trying them all, but J&W’s lowered shop rate for new fleet customers should bring in more customers which will, I think, lead to a long-term relationship. Any customers I have referred to J&W have been very pleased and happy for the suggestion they at least check them out.

I recommend all truck owners to also try J&W once, and see what I mean by quality, speed and price. You might find yourself with new friends and a new heavy duty repair depot.
