FMCSA removes ‘acting’ from administrator’s title

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has a new leader.

Scott Darling has been nominated to the position of administrator of the safety agency. Darling had already been serving as acting administrator.

“Through strong and effective management as chief counsel and acting administrator of FMCSA, Scott has already demonstrated his ability to lead the Agency,” said US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “He is committed to making our roads safer for motorists, passengers, and professional truck and bus drivers, and is constantly working with all sides to find solutions to challenges facing the industry and the motoring public. As administrator, FMCSA will continue to benefit from his years of leadership and experience working in the transportation sector. I look forward to our continued work together.”

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) welcomed the announcement.

“We look forward to continuing to work with administrator Scott Darling,” said Jim Johnston, president and CEO of OOIDA. “We have found him to be open and receptive to input from the association, and he appears to appreciate the role of professional truckers.”

OOIDA says Darling has made “significant progress” towards advancing the cause of improved driver training, an issue that had “previously been stagnant.”

“We are hoping the FMCSA will be willing to tackle some important issues like detention time, driver pay and others, while understanding why it’s important to avoid unnecessary regulations that will harm small businesses,” said Johnston. “We look forward to further discussions on the importance of trucks and truckers, especially small-business truckers, to the nation’s economy.”

  • Why in the world would the truck drivers need someone like this that knows nothing about truck driving? He is getting money to push the eld’s and the trucks that drive themselves from the people that stand to profit from their sales. The eld will do nothing but put the owner operator out of business but they don’t care. And the trucks that drive themselves WILL kill people..count on it. Just more politicians in office that get their pockets padded while the AMERICAN people suffer!!!!!
