ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Freightliner introduced an improved version of its Business Class M2 106V at the Work Truck Show, featuring a larger rad, new hood and enhanced headlight system.

The truck is intended for medium- and heavy-duty vocational applications requiring a front engine PTO and front frame extensions, specifically refuse, snow plow, crane and ultility applications.

“With the enhancements we’ve made to the Business Class M2 106V, we have the next generation of one of our most versatile vocational trucks,” said Melissa Clausen, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks. “We’ve further extended the options for our vocational customers while meeting the stringent 2010 emissions standards.”

A multiplex wiring system and front frame rail exentions remain standard on the truck.

The up-sized radiator is 1,200 sq.-in. and can accommodate up to 380 hp with an automatic transmission and 80,000 lbs gross weight. The radiator is mounted to the engine and sits above the top of the frame to maximize cooling and reliability, Freightliner announced. The location also allows the front engine PTO shaft to run below the rad.

The new headlight system features complex reflectors with halogen bulbs that are easy to replace and available at most auto and truck supply stores, Freightliner announced. The new system is apparently an improvement over the previous sealed beam headlights and provides superior lighting.

Also new is a blend-air engine air intake system which pulls air from under and outside the hood, improving air flow when snow and debris may get in the way, the company claims.

The front frame rail extensions are integrated rather than bolted on, which provides a “constant resistance bending moment” fron the front of the frame extension to the end of the rail. Freightliner says the frame rail extensions are standard, and available in six- and 24-inch lengths, providing a solid mounting point for hydraulic pumps, winches, front stabilizers and snow plows.

The Business Class M2 106V features a lightweight aluminum cab and fiberglass hood with stylish front fenders.

“The Business Class M2 106V blends style and function to the benefit of the driver,” said Clausen. “Special attention was paid to the cab design to decrease driver fatigue and increase productivity.”

  • un-fortunatly, mounting the rad to the engine was a HORRIBLE idea!!i know 1st hand, as my company has a 2010 m2 that is on it”s 5th rad in 198,000 kms.. and it has been repaired and re-enforced, but alas, it has also failed.
