July freight flows up between NAFTA partners

OTTAWA, ON – The value of freight flows between Canada and the United States was up in July, with an increase of 5.6% year-over-year, reports the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA).

The group said fright flows between the two countries increased to $44.8 billion across all modes, as the value of all but air freight increased for the month.

Freight traveling by truck was up by 2.5%, with trucks carrying 57.9% of the total value of freight going to and from Canada.

NAFTA trade was up 6.5% overall from trade in July 2016, making it the ninth consecutive month in which there’s been a year-over-year increase.

Trucks carried just over 63% of U.S.-NAFTA freight and continued to be the most used mode for moving goods to and from both U.S.-NAFTA partners.

Truck shipments accounted for $28.9 billion of the $47.6 billion of imports, and about 66% of the $41.6 billion of exports for July.
