LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kenworth trucks will come with new options under the hood and inside the cab in 2010, the company announced at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

On the engine side, Kenworth announced the Paccar MX will be available on all Class 8 offerings. It’s available in horsepower ratings ranging from 380 to 485 with torque outputs of up to 1,750 lb.-ft.

“Kenworth has an outstanding 2010 engine lineup for Class 8 on-highway and vocational customers,” said Jason Skoog, Kenworth director of marketing planning and research. “We’re especially excited to introduce the 2010 Paccar MX engine into the North American market. Excellent fuel efficiency, low cost of ownership, high reliability and durability, and lightweight design make the Paccar MX engine an ideal choice for both over-the-road line haul and vocational applications.”

The Cummins ISX15 engine will remain an option on Kenworth products, with horsepower ratings ranging from 400 to 600 and torque outputs of 1,450 to 2,050 lb.-ft. The ISL9 will be available on the Kenworth T440, T470 and W900S and the Cummins ISX11.9 will be available later in the year on the T660, T800 and W900S models.

Both the T440 and W900S will be available with the natural gas Cummins Westport ISL G engine.

New to Kenworth is the Bendix Wingman ACB (Active Cruise with Braking) system, which can intervene when an accident is imminent and apply the service brakes and dethrottle the engine. The safety system will be offered as an option in the T660, T700 and T800 models.

The Wingman ACB system provides active interventions when cruise control is on and provides audible alerts at all other times. The system now features stationary object alerts, to notify drivers of hazards on the roadway.

Also new to Kenworth customers is the Eaton UltraShift Plus automated transmission, which is now available as an option on all Class 8 Kenworth trucks.

“Fleets are increasingly interested in automated transmissions,” said Jason Skoog, Kenworth director of marketing planning and research. “The new electronic clutch actuation technology in the Eaton UltraShift Plus will not only benefit our on-highway customers, but also those operating Kenworth T800 and W900 trucks in construction and other vocational applications.”

The UltraShift Plus is available in 10- to 18-speed configurations with torque capabilities of up to 2,050 lb.-ft.

Kenworth is also now offering its all-new NavPlus navigation and infotainment system on Class 5-8 trucks. It comes standard on trucks with premium trim offerings and is available as an upgrade on trucks with all other trim packages, the company says.

The system consists of a 7-inch touch screen mounted in the dash, offering truck-specific GPS, Bluetooth connectivity, Internet access, fully-integrated satellite radio and a range of other entertainment services.

Kenworth claims its NavPlus is the industry’s first factory-installed, in-dash system designed for life on the road.
