No delays expected during repairs on Ambassador Bridge

by Truck News

WINDSOR, Ont. — Despite emergency repairs on the Windsor-Detroit crossing this weekend, representatives of the Ambassador Bridge say traffic delays are not to be expected during ongoing repairs.

Bridge officials say most of the repairs are being done overnight and the work is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

Over the weekend, Transport Canada issued an emergency repair directive to the Canadian Transit Company, which owns and operates the Ambassador Bridge, citing “safety deficiencies” on the Canadian side of the crossing.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau said he hopes the company will do everything it can to speed repair work.

“The safety of the Ambassador Bridge is of critical importance, and I support the measures taken by my department to protect public safety,” Garneau said in a statement. “Should action not be taken in a timely manner, I will not hesitate to take additional safety measures.”

The order called for temporary concrete barriers between traffic traveling both ways and the outside curb as a safety precaution.
