OTA names 2011-2012 Road Knights

TORONTO, Ont. — The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) has announced the roster of its 2011-2012 Road Knights team, selected yesterday by a panel of industry and media professionals.

The team will spend the next two years presenting road-sharing tips to motorists, raising awareness of the importance of the trucking industry and educating young people about the careers available within the industry. Candidates were nominated by their carriers based on their impeccable driving record, commitment to safety and desire to share their trucking industry expertise, the OTA announced.

The 2011-2012 team includes: Jack Fielding, Bison Transport; Robin Seale, Erb Group; John Boneschansker, Laidlaw Carriers Van; Barry Wicklum, Meyers Transport; Ravinder Athwal, Municipal Tank Lines; Fran Gooderham, Thomson Terminals; and Daniel Santoro, Trimac Transportation.

This is the ninth Road Knights squad selected by the OTA and for the first time it is sponsored by the association’s Allied Trades Division.

Members of the Road Knights team have already begun training and will make their first appearances beginning in March, the OTA announced.

  • It’s all good to educate young people about the future career opportunities in the trucking industry but they should also be warned that unless you have a relative in the HR department of a trucking company you likely will not gain employment in the industry as I am now finding out. Giving the fact that I am a brand new driver looking for a job so far all i have heard is “there is no way we’re going to put you in a $100,000 truck with no experience, but thanks for stopping by”. And this came from 4 of the companies listed in the article
