TORONTO, Ont. — The country’s Top Fleet Employers were recognized at Trucking HR Canada’s first ever Awards Gala on Oct. 12 in Toronto, Ont.

The event was put on by the HR giant to celebrate the fleets that were named Top Fleet Employers earlier this year and to give out special awards for those fleets who went above and beyond Trucking HR Canada’s expectations.

Awards for the Top Private Fleet, Top Small Fleet, Top Medium Fleet, Top Large Fleet were given out during the course of the evening.

The Top Private Fleet award went to Home Hardware Stores. Triton Transport won the Top Small Fleet Award. The Top Medium Fleet award went to Linamar. And rounding out the fleet awards, was Westcan Bulk Transport who won the Top Large Fleet Award.

The HR Leader of the Year Award presentation was saved for last.

“This award recognizes an individual who exemplifies human resources practices within their organization,” said Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. “Nominees were scored on a range of criteria, looking at all of their HR accomplishments, leadership and HR development…This year the quality of nominees was outstanding and I’m sincere when I say it was extremely close.”

Ken Cross, senior manager, HR for SLH Transport was named this year’s HR Leader of the Year. He has close to 15 years of HR experience.

“We can’t do what we do without our employees…we have great people,” Cross said upon accepting the award. “I’m humbled by the award. Being part of Top Fleet for three years has really allowed us to…really learn how we can expand our horizons within transportation and to engage our employees and make sure they stay with us until that end.”

Trucking HR Canada’s Top Fleet Employers Program is open to any Canadian fleet, and recognizes fleets that meet Trucking HR Canada’s standards of excellence in human resources for the trucking industry. The Top Fleet Employers Program has grown over the past three years, with a growing number of fleets applying.  If you think your fleet has what it takes to be a Top Fleet Employer, Trucking HR Canada encourages you to apply and join other fleets that shine a positive light on the trucking industry, and help showcase this industry as a great place to work.
