SIOUX NARROWS, Ont. — The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will implement load restrictions for vehicles using the Sioux Narrows Bridge on Hwy. 71, effective immediately.

The MTO has been monitoring the condition of this bridge for several months and increasing structural deterioration has been recorded.

Recent data received by the ministry has revealed that the rate of the bridge’s deterioration has accelerated, therefore vehicles crossing the bridge will be restricted to 15 tonnes.

Advisory signage will be posted to inform commercial carriers of the new restrictions, and a detour is available along Highway 502 between Highway 17 and Highway 11.

The MTO has expedited the design and construction of a temporary replacement bridge that will restore traffic flow to all vehicles in this area. It is expected that the temporary replacement bridge will be in place by January 2004.
