Ontario Truck Driving Championships: Home Hardware

Dennis Shantz explains why the hardware retailer is a big supporter of the driving competition.

The provincial finals of the  Ontario Truck Driving Championships are taking place on Saturday, July 12 in Barrie, Ont.

Before the regional qualifying events, which were held in Cambridge and Toronto, Truck News introduced you to some competitors. Now we’re giving you the opportunity to get to know them—and their employers—even better.

One past champion we’ve profiled is Shawn Matheson. Matheson drives for Home Hardware Stores Ltd. The St. Jacobs, Ont.-based retailer is a strong supporter of the Championships. Home Hardware trucks and equipment were used in both the Central Ontario and Toronto regional qualifiers and will be part of the event in Barrie.

Dennis Shantz, Home Hardware’s director of fleet services tells Truck News why he thinks the Championships are important, and why the company’s drivers do so well in the competition. He also discusses his approach to hiring drivers.
