Ontario diesel prices reach six-year high

TORONTO, Ont. — Diesel in Ontario now costs more than it has in the past six years, the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) has pointed out.

Bitter cold is to blame for the rack price of diesel reaching a six-year high, the association claims. Current prices of $1.01 per litre, before taxes, are the highest since 2008. The OTA calculates average diesel rack prices by examining the price in nine Ontario locations.

The current rack price is nearly double its price from April 2009.

“Nationally, we see a similar trend,” the OTA said in a release. “The Canadian average weekly rack price for diesel also broke the 100-cents per litre mark (before tax) this past week, averaging 102.6 cents per litre, with the monthly average for January sitting just below the 100 cents at 98.8 cents. This is the first time the weekly 100-cents per litre mark has been broken, since mid-2008.”

  1. John Pringle says:

The government is lowering the Canadian dollar, every component on your truck is going to be higher.
The government is promoting the exporting of oil for an industry that does not have the capacity to supply the Canadian market at a reasonable price.
The government should be reducing the export of oil say 10% every month untill the oil companies figure out how to get the fuel prices lower, and more secure.
I paid $3.97 for diesel in the US and $1.49 a litre in the okanagan, BC Canada.
#3 highway is shut down for a few rocks on the road so they are not spending all that road tax on the highway unless it has a ski hill at the end.
