Shaw Tracking products comply with Ontario’s hand-held ban
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — In the wake of Ontario’s recent hand-held devices ban, Shaw Tracking is reminding clients that its full suite of products comply with the new Ontario Distracted Driver Law.
Since Feb. 1, Ontario drivers have been subject to new laws restricting the use of cell phones, PDAs and other communication devices to hands-free use. Shaw Tracking officials have noted that many of the company’s technology features already include built-in capabilities to ensure the driver’s safety, such as text-to-speech accessibility; one-touch, securable remote control devices; and screen blanking of mounted displays when vehicle is in motion.

Now if we can just get Dispatch to understand that we (drivers) cannot get back to them right away while in motion, we’ll be all set. I don’t know how many times I have received a message over the satelitte wanting an ETA IMMEDIATELY. Sometimes it’s very difficult to find a place (safe enough) to pull over and also, getting Dispatch to realize that pulling over and replying on the satelitte (every 2 hours) is classed as ON DUTY NOT DRIVING. Try finding a place on Highway 11 in a snowstorm to pull off the road..WITHOUT GETTING STUCK !!!! GOOD LUCK.
