Aftermarket system tracks vulnerable road users

Continental’s Turn Assist is designed to offer drivers an audible and visual warning whenever a pedestrian, cyclist or other vulnerable road user is detected inside the vehicle’s danger zone.

The radar-based system is also reliable in bad weather and poor lighting conditions, and can be retrofitted to all types of trucks and connected to existing vehicle warning systems, the company says.

It all combines a radar sensor, evaluation unit, a buzzer and light for the warnings, and a steering angle sensor.

The radar sensor itself is installed on the rearview mirror and monitors an area that extends 13 feet to the side of the vehicle, and up to 46 feet behind it.
