N.B. installs weigh-in-motion system at Salisbury scales
SALISBURY, N.B. — The New Brunswick Climate Action Fund (NBCAF) has funded the installion of a weigh-in-motion system at the eastbound Salisbury scales, which will weigh transport trucks at highway speeds.
The $500,000 investment will reduce fuel consumed by trucks by allowing the majority of them to pass by the scale without slowing down. It’s expected the weigh-in-motion system will save 4,000 tonnes of greenhous gas emissions each year.
“This project is consistent with the commitments made in the New Brunswick Climate Change Action Plan (NBCCAP) and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by the transportation industry in the province,” said Natural Resources Minister, Wally Stiles. “Investments such as this will ensure that New Brunswick continues to be a promoter of environmental sustainability, which we must achieve to remain positioned to be self-sufficient by 2026.”
Weigh-in-motion systems are already deployed at Longs Creek, Deerwood, Waweig and Salisbury west.
The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association was naturally pleased with the investment.
“The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA) and the trucking industry are very pleased with today’s announcement,” said Jean-Marc Picard, executive director, APTA. “Our carriers are always very conscientious when it comes to the environment, and they are continuously focusing their efforts on how they can save fuel and reduce GHG emissions. Initiatives such as this one are always great news for the industry.”

As a driver I pass over your scales at least 4 times a day empty. Each time I am pulled in .wonder why I have asked but get this is a random thing.tonight there was over ten of us that were all pulled in to cross the platform all empty and bobtailing.can this be address as. For wireless log book this can take over half a hour or more off my time to get home.or to cross another scale.and why do they stop you.I have been told so they can check brake lights really this a waste of time fuel.as a tax’s payer I find this is down right a waste of roll over scales money that was to save time and fuel is being used for nothing
