Manitoba leasing companies subject to carrier safety ratings

WINNIPEG, Man. — Companies that lease vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 4,500 kilograms or greater may not escape the scrutiny of Manitoba’s online carrier safety ratings.

If the trucks are leased for 30 days or less, the vehicle registration remains in the name of the lessor and their safety rating will be affected by any convictions handed out to the lessee.

The Manitoba Trucking Association is advising leasing companies to visit www.gov.mb.ca/hwy/cps-index.html to see if the Manitoba Department of Transportation and Government Services is keeping a safety profile on their company.

If a leasing company is having their safety ratings tarnished due to lessee convictions, the company is advised to call the Bruce McCormick’s department at 204-945-6651 to have the matter corrected.
