Small turnout for 905-area traffic discussions
TORONTO, Ont. — If a recent round-table discussion hosted by a federal task force to examine the issue of traffic in urban areas is any indication, most politicians are apathetic about the issue.
The York University session in Toronto drew only a handful of politicians, drawing criticism from the feds who were on hand to hear concerns from local representatives.
"It’s their loss. We provided the opportunity for them to tell us how they feel about these important issues and now their voice won’t be heard at the Prime Minister’s table," Judy Sgro, chair of the Prime Minister’s Caucus Task Force on Urban Issues, tells local media. "I guess they just couldn’t be bothered."
The York University session was intended for representatives from the 905 area code, but organizers are hoping to draw more of a crowd at today’s National Trade Center meeting centered on the downtown Toronto area.
Other cities on the task force’s tour include Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
