CTA to make speed limiter plan national
OTTAWA, Ont. — The Canadian Trucking Alliance is preparing to endorse the Ontario Trucking Association’s speed limiter policy, according to a report in the National Post.
The newspaper reported an announcement that all provincial associations are on-board with the plan will take place tomorrow. The information was leaked to the National Post. Quebec had been the sole province not to endorse the controversial policy which would see truck speeds mechanically limited to 105 km/h.
Now, with Quebec on-board, the association hopes to roll the policy out right across Canada. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is expected to reveal its position on the OTA’s policy in the near future.
The American Trucking Associations recently announced a speed limiter policy of its own but it’s a far cry from what the OTA and CTA are seeking. The ATA’s proposal would require the speed limiters of new trucks to be activated at the point of manufacture, but there would be no requirement to keep the speed limiters activated.
