Martins Industries has expanded its winter traction product lineup with the acquisition of tire stud brands Bruno Wessel and Road Grip.

The Farnham, Que.-based company said the deal adds a range of tire studs designed for passenger vehicles, light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, snowplows and mining equipment, as well as motorsports applications such as rally and ice racing.

The products include aluminum and steel studs as well as screw-in stud designs intended to improve traction and safety in icy and snowy conditions.

“With this new acquisition — the fifth completed by Martins in recent years — we are further expanding our product range and reinforcing Martins’ position as a key player in the tire industry,” said Martin Dépelteau, president of Martins, in a release.

He said the addition of the two brands strengthens the company’s focus on safety solutions for fleets and operators working in challenging winter conditions.

Bruno Wessel and Road Grip products will continue to be developed and distributed while benefiting from Martins’ international manufacturing and distribution network, the company said.

Garry Wessel, president of Bruno Wessel, said the acquisition ensures the continuation of a family business founded more than 50 years ago.

“This acquisition not only secures the proud legacy of Bruno Wessel and team, but also unlocks new growth opportunities and ensures our industry-leading tire studs, tools and equipment continue to meet our customers’ strictest demands,” he said.

Martins designs and manufactures tire and wheel service equipment and supplies used across automotive, trucking and industrial sectors.
