Volvo Trucks North America has begun production of its new Volvo VNR regional hauler at the company’s New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, Va.

The redesigned VNR was first unveiled in March 2025, with order books opening six months later. The first trucks rolled off the line in February 2026 and will be delivered to national homebuilder Clayton.

“Built on a completely new platform — 90% new compared with the legacy model — the Volvo VNR is purpose-built for navigating congested city streets, distribution centers, and urban routes where visibility, precision, and agility are critical,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. “We are excited to begin production and get these trucks into the hands of our customers.”

The regional-haul model is offered in multiple Class 8 configurations, including 4×2, 6×2 and 6×4 tractors, as well as straight trucks with a range of body options.

Powertrain choices include Volvo’s VGT engine, rated from 405 to 455 hp and 1,450 to 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque, along with the D13 Turbo Compound engine, which uses waste-heat recovery technology to improve efficiency. Two additional low-NOx engine ratings are also available for the D13 platform.
