Mounties in Burnaby, B.C. ticketed a dump truck driver for 10 violations after they crashed their vehicle into a lamp post and hydro pole, knocking them over, disrupting traffic and the nearby train track for several hours.

On Jan. 13, just after 1 p.m., Burnaby RCMP officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a dump truck on Boundary Road, near Myrtle Street, according to a news release.

When police arrived, they discovered the truck had collided with a lamp post and a hydro pole, knocking them both over. There were no injuries.

“Our investigators believe that a proper pre-trip inspection could have caught several defects that may have prevented this collision,”  Cpl. Mike Kalanj with the Burnaby RCMP said in the release. “We are extremely lucky that nobody was hurt as a result of this incident, as the truck was travelling downhill with ineffective brakes.”

The truck was later towed and inspected by a Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services officer, as well as a Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement officer. As a result of the inspection, the truck and trailer were put out of service.

The driver was also ticketed for 10 violations, including failing to ensure the vehicle was in safe operating condition, failing to comply with trip inspection requirements and exceeding the axle weight of both the truck and the trailer.
