Canada Border Services Agency officers in Ontario have arrested a truck driver attempting to smuggle 266.4 kg (587.3 pounds) of methamphetamine into the country this month.

On Feb. 4, a commercial truck arriving at the Blue Water Bridge port of entry in Point Edward, Ont., from the United States was referred for a secondary inspection. During an examination of the trailer, border services officers, assisted by a detector dog, found 16 duffle bags containing suspected methamphetamine, according to a CBSA news release.

The CBSA arrested Kulbir Singh, 29, of Woodstock, Ont., and transferred him and the narcotics to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Singh has been charged with importation of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The case is before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia, Ont. The charges have not been proven in court and the investigation is ongoing.

Since Jan. 1, 2025, CBSA officers in Southern Ontario have seized 616.5 kg of methamphetamine entering Canada from the United States.
