The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a regional emergency declaration across 40 states due to the severe winter storms.

The declaration will be in place through Feb. 6, or until the emergency ends. It provides temporary relief from hours-of-service rules for certain motor carriers and drivers

The relief applies regardless of trip origin, as long as the operation supports emergency relief and the movement of essential supplies in the affected states.

The declaration does not include routine commercial deliveries or mixed loads with nominal emergency supplies.
