Impaired B.C. dump truck driver faces 90-day driving ban, vehicle impounded
An impaired dump truck driver is facing a 90-day driving suspension, and his fully loaded dump truck is sitting in an impound lot for 30 days after B.C. Highway Patrol officers intercepted the vehicle in Chilliwack.
On April 9, just before 9:30 a.m., a passerby called police about a dump truck driving dangerously on Highway #1 eastbound, near Vedder Road, according to a news release.

“The caller who alerted police did a great job describing the driving behavior and location of the truck,” Corporal Michael McLaughlin with B.C. Highway Patrol said in the release. “Two B.C. Highway Patrol vehicles intercepted the truck near Popkum Road. We are obviously very concerned whenever a professional dump truck driver makes the decision to drive while impaired.”
The Abbotsford company that owns the truck will be responsible for the towing and impound costs. The driver, a 64-year-old Abbotsford man, has been served a 90-day driving prohibition and had to be driven home by his wife.

The carnage from inexperienced New Drivers and drinking is Amazing in this day and age! I am recommending that finger prints be used for licensing! That way people can’t easily switch licenses like they are doing in Ontario!!
Serves him right and Thankyou for the quick action no possible excuse for his actions
For what these guys are willing to work for, maybe an eye-opener is the only thing that gets him through the day. (Dump truck driver thought: I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. )
We truck in the USA and we have to Drug / Alcohol testing on our drivers . Why doesn’t Canada have a Drug / Alcohol Testing policy. Where are the professional drivers ???
I agree with Alan .
Why only 90 days? That is a joke!
I’ve been trucking for 43 years , as far as I’m concerned if you are caught impaired in anyway , drugs, alcohol driving a commercial truck . You should loose your license to drive a commercial vehicle for ever . Why is the system so easy on offenders. It really take the professional out of the trade .
