Bernard Joyal, a truck driver for Transport Transbo/Olymel, is the winner of the 2025 Volvo Driver of the Year award for Quebec. The award was announced today at the annual conference of the Quebec Trucking Association (QTA) in Gatineau.

Having worked for Transbo/Olymel since the beginning of his career and the company’s creation 46 years ago, Joyal has since covered a total of 9 million kilometers without an at-fault accident while driving a heavy truck.

“His dedication and passion for his work are a source of inspiration for his colleagues, who call him a mentor and a valued friend,” said Alain Delisle, district manager for Volvo Trucks Canada, when the winner’s name was announced.

Joyal initially wanted to be a truck driver because it was a good opportunity for him to see the country. “It’s a rewarding job,” he told convention delegates gathered in Gatineau.

“I’ve been driving trucks for 46 years and I’ve never had an accident. My method is to set my cruise control 2-3 km/h below the speed limit, which gives me some leeway when I have to overtake,” the Drummondville native shared in a video.

His colleagues at Olymel/Transbo described him as someone of integrity, friendly, caring, and a perfectionist who always ensures his work is done in the best possible way and who enjoys sharing his experience.

“When you’re on the road, take your time, be aware, avoid distractions and be safe,” advised the Driver of the Year, who shared the honor with his wife Carmen.
