More than half of commercial vehicles inspected in B.C.’s Burnaby, Lower Mainland placed OOS in 2025
More than half of the commercial vehicles inspected in Burnaby and the Lower Mainland during targeted enforcement in 2025 were taken off the road.
Over the past year, Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services joined forces with 12 partner agencies to conduct joint commercial vehicle enforcement operations across the Lower Mainland. Of the 2,901 inspections carried out, 1,610 commercial vehicles (56%) were placed out of service.
Seventy-four joint operations were held throughout the year, with 3,661 violation tickets issued.

“These numbers continue to be very concerning and represent a real risk for everyone on the roads,” said Cst. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP’s designated commercial vehicle inspector, in a news release. “While there are many commercial vehicle operators who are doing their due diligence and prioritizing safety, unfortunately, we are still seeing those who are not properly maintaining their vehicles, including repeat offenders.”
In addition to participating in joint operations, Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services also conducted 47 of its own commercial vehicle enforcement operations within the city of Burnaby.
Out of 1,399 inspections conducted in Burnaby, 800 vehicles (57%) were placed out of service, and 1,875 violation tickets were issued.
“These results underscore the need for ongoing enforcement and education,” Connolly said. “Our officers and partner agencies are committed to continuing to work together to identify potential hazards, encourage compliance and increase safety for all road users.”
