More than 1,600 heavy trucks were pulled over by Quebec police forces in October, as part of a Heavy Vehicle Surveillance Plan 2025-2026.

About 2,000 tickets were given out as part of the program, which continues to run until 2026, announced Sûreté du Québec in a press release.

The operation is being conducted in collaboration with Contrôle routier Québec (Quebec Road Safety Authority), and aims to intensify surveillance, prevent risky behavior, and reinforce the importance of respecting the laws and regulations governing heavy vehicles.

“The main reckless behaviors targeted include failure to obey traffic signs, tailgating, distractions, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to yield the right-of-way, and excessive speed,” the press release said.

“Particular attention will be paid to the rules concerning owners, operators and drivers of heavy vehicles, including verification of driving hours, pre-trip inspections, possession of a compliant license and insurance, non-compliant equipment and speed limiters.”
