Ontario Provincial Police laid 26 charges after stopping an unsafe commercial vehicle twice in the same day on Highway 11 in Northern Ontario.

Officers with the Temagami OPP first responded around 5 a.m. on March 3 after debris from a commercial vehicle was reported in live traffic lanes. A subsequent CVSA Level 1 inspection revealed several serious safety issues, including a suspended driver’s license, an improper trailer plate and non-functioning brakes, the OPP said in a post on X.

The vehicle and driver were placed out of service.

Later that afternoon, at about 3 p.m., Temiskaming OPP officers located the same vehicle operating again — this time with a handwritten license plate and unresolved safety defects.

Police laid multiple charges against the second driver and the Alberta-based carrier. Charges include insecure load, unsafe vehicle operation, improper brakes, careless driving and permit violations.

In total, 26 charges were issued.

The OPP reminded commercial drivers and carriers that vehicles must be properly maintained and operated in compliance with safety regulations to keep Ontario highways safe.
