Police have charged a truck driver in a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a tow truck operator on Highway 401 earlier this month.

On Dec. 3 at 7:18 a.m., members of the Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, along with paramedic and fire services, responded to a fail-to-remain collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401, west of Oxford Road 3 in the Township of Blandford-Blenheim.

Emergency crews located a tow truck operator who had been struck by an unknown vehicle while assisting a motorist. The 42-year-old man from Kitchener, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police sought the public’s assistance in identifying the commercial motor vehicle and its occupant or occupants. On Dec. 5, police announced they had located the vehicle and identified the driver.

On Dec. 22, police arrested and charged Sandeep Singh, 32, of Mount Hope, Ont., with dangerous operation causing death and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. The charges have not been proved in court.

Singh was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock, Ont., on Jan. 27, 2026.

  • The driver left the scene of the accident. The, after police identify and locate him, he still gets released on bail!
Did he turn himself in, or did the police track him down?
    Did his employer report him?
    Is he a flight risk?
The unfortunate tow truck driver died!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM: THE TRUCK DRIVER GETS BAIL?

  • I heard about the fact that the driver was released yesterday and thought it might have been an AI scam/false news..
BUT low and behold it was not!!!
Let me see if I have the facts semi correct..

Truck Driver hits and kills Tow Truck driver.
    Leaves scene of accident
This is Vehicular Manslaughter ( ya know causing death of a person with a vehicle) as well as fleeing the scene of an accident.
Somehow on December 5th the police ( OPP ??) located/caught the driver.
Then on December 22 the driver is finally charged and released from custody by the police ( OPP??).
Supposed to appear in court in January 2026 for first round of trials.

    So am I sorta correct??
Was the driver held in custody until the 22nd?
If so where and why couldn’t the driver stay there??
Who’s idea was it to release the driver who caused this??
Did the police ( OPP??) receive orders to release the driver?
    If so WHY???
    Special circumstances?
So if a person, let’s say is drunk, and kills someone with their vehicle then they are released??
    NOT SO IN THE PAST!!!!
    What has changed and WHY!!!
Would this apply to any other crime that causes death?
Charged and then released with a future court date??
Did the driver receive any restrictions?
Eg: ankle monitor, checking in with the police ( OPP??), barred from leaving his residence, bail/bond, must remain under supervision of ???

Are there any concerns/questions in regards to the driver’s license, status and ability to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle?
Has his license and privilege to operate a Motor Vehicle been revoked??
What is preventing the driver from fleeing not just Canada but from Ontario and relocating to another province?
Am I unaware, do we ( Canadians) submit to finger print verification if we relocate to another province?
If not then what is preventing the driver from relocating and escaping justice?

Please forgive me as I have grown a tad forgetful about this.
Can someone please remind me how the below incident was finally resolved..
    The Humbold crash??
Did not a Commercial Vehicle collide with a bus load of young hockey players?

I sure hope this gets sorted out and the people who a) caused this incident and b) allowed the driver to be released are made to be accountable.

  • And Just to state.

I did use paragraphs and spaces in my post

But when I came up after I hit submit it became all jumbled and a run on type sentence.

I double spaced this post to see how it would look and hope that the editor would correct the lay out/format

  • I can’t believe, that a a person who just killed someone with his truck , freed the scene, was tracked down put in custody was set free probably with the words ” oh, please can you come to court next year?”
“Oh ,ja and don’t leave the country ”
He’s probably sitting again in a semi driving with a different license still free ( or fleed our country already)while a family is mourning the loss of a loved one!!
This is really a hit in the face with a baseball bat for the family and everyone who obeys the law and drives a semi in the most safe way for years and years. I’m trucking since 40 years and hope to retire soon because I’m approaching the point that I can’t take these drivers anymore!!
To the family: In the name of all caring and well educated Truck driver’s , please accept our sincere condolences. Very sorry for your loss.

  • Why release a driver who you know care about no one but himself. Singh will likely be back in India right now. There have been many drivers like this one who have done just that. Our legal system needs to wake up as woke is over. DEI does not cut it either.
