Provincial police in Ontario charged a commercial vehicle driver after they were caught using duct tape as a makeshift replacement for a broken driver’s side window.

On Dec. 8, 2024, at 10 a.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint from a concerned motorist. Officers quickly located the vehicle, according to a news release.

  • I see that this company has a great PM program. Do you ever wonder why people just down right hate us. I can only hope that their CVOR rating sky rockets and when it comes to any fines, they get the highest amount one can be charged. Also, shame on the customer for using such a misfit of an operation!

  • Enough is enough. I came across a picture of a truck with its driver’s side window duct-taped in place, and I honestly thought it was a joke. Who in their right mind would pull something like this? But no, this wasn’t Photoshop. This was a real commercial vehicle out on the road — an absolute ticking time bomb — and it’s downright infuriating.
The driver, a 27-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, was slapped with several charges, including:
    • No clear view to the sides
    • Improper mirror use
    • Careless driving
    • Failing to report an accident
The vehicle was immediately taken off the road — as it damn well should have been!
This wasn’t a case of someone trying to limp their way to a repair shop after an accident. No, this was a calculated decision to tape up a broken window and just keep going like everything was fine. That’s not just stupid — it’s reckless and criminal. It shows zero regard for public safety, and it makes you wonder: how did this guy even get a commercial license? More importantly, how did he keep it this long?
This isn’t a mistake or an oversight. This is intentional craziness. And frankly, maybe this kind of behavior flies in some other countries, but not here. We’ve got standards, and we expect people behind the wheel of 80,000-pound trucks to follow them.
And let’s not give the company that hired him a free pass, either. Who knows? Maybe they were complicit in this. Maybe they told him to slap some tape on the window and get the load delivered no matter what. If that’s the case, they should face consequences, too. If you’re willing to cut corners on something as fundamental as driver safety, you have no business being in this industry.
What’s worse is that there are drivers out there who bust their asses to do things the right way. They keep their rigs in top shape, follow safety protocols, and respect the rules of the road. And then you’ve got idiots like this guy, who undermine the entire profession by acting like a total clown.
The courts need to make an example out of this driver. Hit him with every penalty in the book. Pull his license, fine him to the hilt, and let everyone know that this kind of madness won’t be tolerated. And if the company he works for was involved, they should be dragged into it, too.
We keep seeing these kinds of stories — drivers doing the absolute dumbest things behind the wheel of commercial vehicles. It’s outrageous. These aren’t minor mistakes. They’re major safety violations that put lives at risk. And for what? To save a few bucks or shave a few hours off a trip?
It’s time to get these idiots off the road. The trucking industry has enough challenges without having to deal with reckless drivers making everyone look bad. Safety isn’t negotiable. It’s the bare minimum we should expect from anyone driving a commercial vehicle.
This isn’t just about one driver or one company. It’s about sending a message that if you’re not going to take safety seriously, you’re not welcome on our roads. Period.
Am I overreacting? Good, because this kind of stupid needs an overreaction. It’s time we draw a hard line and start holding idiots accountable for this kind of nonsense.

  • I see more AND More of this. The driver should go back to driving school !
How Did He Get His AZ in the first place!

  • I’ll bet this carrier’s CVOR and US Safe Stat report could have predicted this. Forget roadside inspection and use the tools that clearly identify the less than stellar operators.
