HyLife’s Bulacso named 2025 Canadian Driver of the Year
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) named Steinbach, Man.-based livestock hauler Mario Bulacso as Canada’s 2025 top professional truck driver.
Bulacso, who drives for HyLife, is recognized with the CTA/Volvo Trucks Canada National Driver of the Year award. He was chosen from among last year’s provincial Drivers of the Year and previously earned the 2024 Manitoba Trucking Association/Volvo Driver of the Year title. The award is considered the highest honor a professional truck driver can receive in Canada.

Over his 10-year, collision-free driving career, Bulacso has shown a strong commitment to safety, animal care, and the trucking profession, CTA said in a news release. He brings nearly two decades of experience in the pork industry to his role as a livestock hauler and holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in animal science. His prior experience as a barn technician brings additional expertise to his daily responsibilities, CTA said.
Bulacso also participates actively on his company’s driver advisory board, represents HyLife at career fairs and truck shows, and serves as both a driver representative and trainer.
“His passion for driving radiates through his work ethic and energy. He exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated ambassador for trucking,” said Aaron Dolyniuk, executive director of the MTA, in the release.
“At Volvo Trucks, we are proud to recognize Mario Bulacso as the 2025 National Driver of the Year. His unwavering commitment to safety, professionalism and dedication to animal welfare reflects the very best of our industry.” added Matthew Blackman, managing director at Volvo Trucks Canada. “Mario’s dedication to mentoring new drivers and building community on the road exemplifies the leadership and integrity we value in professional drivers.”
When not behind the wheel, Bulacso enjoys fishing, yard work, and karaoke. He and his wife Carla have three children and four grandchildren.
