Allison Transmission‘s 3000 Series automatic transmission is now available in the compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered Mack Granite for waste management fleets.

The announcement follows the 2023 launch of the Allison 4500 Rugged Duty Series transmission in the Mack Granite CNG, the company said in a news release, adding that the new pairing of the Allison 3000 with the Cummins L9N engine is designed to reduce acquisition costs while maintaining performance and durability, particularly for lighter roll-off duty cycles.

“This expanded powertrain option gives our customers more flexibility to optimize their trucks specifically for lighter-duty waste applications,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America, in the release.

Allison transmissions pair seamlessly with different fuel types, including diesel, CNG other alternative fuels. Allison-equipped natural gas vehicles maximize performance while reducing emissions and engine noise levels, leading to a better experience for drivers, customers and the general public, the company claims.

“Pairing Allison transmissions with natural gas engines leverages our torque converter to ensure peak performance and fuel efficiency,” said Rohan Barua, vice-president of North America sales, global channel and aftermarket at Allison Transmission. “The CNG-powered Mack Granite will optimize fleet productivity, improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. We are proud to partner with Mack on this initiative.”

The 3000 Series transmission is built for medium- and heavy-duty trucks across a range of applications including refuse, distribution, utility, fire and emergency, and transit. It supports engines with power ratings from 210 to 450 hp and up to 1,250 lb.-ft. of torque capacity.
