CarriersEdge adds new air brakes course
CarriersEdge has released a new series of online courses on air brakes, expanding its library with content based on Techni-Com’s Practical Air Brakes program with content provided by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).
The course, which took 18 months to develop with subject matter experts explains how air brake systems work, from creating braking force at the wheel to performing safe and effective inspections.

“Techni-Com’s content is second-to-none, and well established as the industry standard,” said Jane Jazrawy, CEO of CarriersEdge, in a news release. “With the addition of the material from CVSA, there’s no other online course on the market with this depth of content. We’ve even created an interactive, virtual brake board that allows participants to see all the working parts of an air brake system and how they interact.”
Participants learn the function of each subsystem and its components, what to watch for during visual inspections, as well as operational tests and brake adjustment practices to confirm an air brake system is safe to operate.
“Air brake defects continue to plague the trucking industry,” added Rolf VanderZwaag, president of Techni-Com. “It is a complicated subject that can challenge even experienced drivers. Driver education is the key to a clean safety record, and an approachable, engaging learning experience ensures drivers learn effectively.”
The program is intended for drivers working toward their air brake endorsement, those seeking refresher training, and service technicians.
The course includes eight interactive modules that can be taken individually or as a 156-minute compilation course. Titles cover the fundamentals, supply, service, spring, and trailer brake subsystems, as well as visual brake inspections, conducting functional tests, and S-cam brake adjustment.
Beyond the core training, each module features a baseline test so drivers can assess their knowledge without completing the full course.
The new program is currently available in English for CarriersEdge subscription customers, with French and Spanish versions coming soon.
