MGM Rolls Out Electronic Stroke Indicator

MGM Brakes has introduced a new onboard electronic system which promises to make brake adjustment checks a breeze.

The eStroke system consists of sensors built into the spring brakes coupled to a chassis communications module (CCM). The sensors, installed and calibrated at the factory to ensure reliable operation, convert brake shaft travel into an electronic signal. The CCM monitors these signals and provides wheel-specific blink codes that tell a driver or technician whether a brake chamber has normal stroke, overstroke, or is simply not functioning. It will also indicate whether a brake is dragging.

The CCM is typically mounted on the trailer or truck cab where it can be easily read. In-cab monitoring of both tractor and trailer brakes is also possible using multiplexing over the J560 tractor-trailer connector.

eStroke has a three-year warranty and will initially be offered as an OEM option. It can also be retrofitted, but operators will need to replace existing spring brake chambers with new sensor-equipped types.

AirWeigh of Eugene, Ore. is a partner with MGM in the development and manufacturing of the system. AirWeigh, which already makes a number of onboard electronic control modules, makes the CCM for the eStroke system.
