Valvoline introduces tri-fuel heavy-duty engine oil with extended drains
Valvoline Global Operations has introduced Premium Blue One Solution Gen 2 heavy-duty engine oil, designed to extend oil drain intervals while supporting multiple engine types.
The product, unveiled at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2026 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition, has been approved by Cummins for oil drain intervals of up to 100,000 miles (160,000 km) under certain operating conditions. The extended drains apply to the Cummins X15 diesel and natural gas engines, the company said at TMC.

Valvoline said the extended oil drain capability can reduce service events, improve uptime, and lower maintenance costs for fleets.
Premium Blue One Solution Gen 2 is engineered for diesel, natural gas, and gasoline engines, allowing fleets to consolidate lubricants across mixed-fuel equipment.
“Longhaul 18-wheelers on the highways need to minimize equipment downtime,” said John Walters, vice president of heavy duty at Valvoline Global. “By delivering up to a 25,000-mile (40,235 km) oil drain interval extension, minimizing downtime is what Premium Blue One Solution Gen 2 is engineered to do.”
The company said longer oil drain intervals can reduce labor costs, waste oil disposal fees, and inventory requirements by limiting the number of oil types fleets must stock.
Valvoline said the product was developed in collaboration with Cummins, continuing a partnership that spans more than 30 years.
The company also described the lubricant as the first heavy-duty engine oil approved for 100,000-mile (160,000-km) oil drain intervals and the first designed for tri-fuel use across diesel, natural gas, and gasoline engines.
Extended drain capability applies to diesel and natural gas Cummins X15 engines built between 2021 and 2026 that achieve at least 7 mpg and operate with less than 40% idle or PTO time.
Valvoline said the product is intended to help fleets lower total cost of ownership by reducing the frequency of maintenance stops.
