A two-day commercial vehicle enforcement blitz in the Greater Sudbury area resulted in 64 charges and multiple vehicles being taken off the road.

On Feb. 3 and 4, the Greater Sudbury Police Service partnered with the Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Ministry of Transportation commercial motor vehicle inspectors to conduct targeted enforcement.

Officers carried out enforcement in the Kingsway and Barry Downe Road areas, as well as in Falconbridge, Azilda, and Chelmsford.

During the blitz, officers conducted 42 commercial motor vehicle stops and completed 21 CVSA Level 1 inspections. Six vehicles were placed out of service, and three unfit motor vehicles had their license plates removed.

A total of 64 charges were laid for commercial motor vehicle-related offences. Charges included failing to display or carry proof of inspection, operating a commercial motor vehicle without a required inspection, failing to carry an inspection schedule, operating without a valid CVOR certificate, and failing to accurately complete a daily inspection.

Additional charges were issued for overweight vehicles and permit violations, insecure loads, and overweight single axles.

Inspectors also identified multiple vehicle defects, including inoperative brakes, loose fasteners, missing mufflers, and emissions-related violations.
