A truck driver is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police say he traveled more than 100 km (62 miles) without a tire on his trailer.

Officers pulled the tractor trailer over last week in Lecours Township heading westbound on Highway 17. An OPP official told trucknews.com that the Provincial Communications Centre received a few calls from the public that alerted officers to look out for the commercial motor vehicle.

The 41-year-old driver from Calgary, Alta., was charged with operating an unsafe combination of vehicles. The trucking company based out of Steinbach, Man., faces the charge of permitting operation of an unsafe combination of vehicles.

The OPP reminded drivers to take a few minutes to inspect their vehicle before hitting the road.

“A quick safety check can prevent serious incidents and helps ensure you and everyone else sharing the road, arrive safely at your destination,” the OPP said in a social media post.
