Normal operations have resumed at the Ambassador Bridge, the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) said Monday evening, after the busy international border crossing was shut down for most of the day due to “possible explosives” in the area.

The CBSA alerted Windsor Police after possible explosives were found inside a vehicle in secondary inspection. The explosive disposal unit attended the scene.

Police said the driver of the involved vehicle is being detained pending further investigation and is currently in the custody of CBSA. No other persons are believed to be involved in this incident. Police remain on scene and are continuing the investigation.

Police earlier in the day said the area had been evacuated and the bridge linking Windsor, Ont. to Detroit, Michigan had been closed. Traffic was rerouted to adjacent ports of entry of Windsor Detroit Tunnel and Blue Water Bridge.
