Trucking HR Canada recognizes top trucking employers

Trucking HR Canada held its annual Top Fleet Employers Awards Gala on September 9th. The event, which was a blend of virtual and live, brought together industry employers from across Canada to celebrate excellence in Human Resources.

The program recognized seventy-seven fleets in 2021, and the awards show highlighted their leadership in showcasing this industry as a formidable place to work.

Wellington Group of Companies was the recipient of the Top Small Fleet Award. The Top Medium Fleet Award went to RST and Sunbury Transport.  Bison Transport who won the Top Large Fleet Award.  The Top Private Fleet/Fleet Services Award went to Walmart Fleets.

The Achievement of Excellence Awards were broken down into eight categories this year to highlight leaders in specific HR areas. The recipient of the Workplace Culture Award was Sutco Transportation Specialists. XTL Transport Logistics Distribution was the winner of the Award for Workplace Diversity. The recipient of the HR Innovator Award was Logikor Transport. The Employee Engagement Award went to ONE for Freight and the Award for Training and Skills Development was Challenger Motor Freight.  The Achievement of Excellence for Workplace Mental Health was awarded to Rosenau Transport Ltd., and the Achievement of Excellence for Women in the Workplace was awarded to Ryder. And, this year, the new award Achievement of Excellence for HR Leadership award was given to Kriska Transportation Group.

The HR Leader of the Year Award, presented by Reimer Associates – was awarded to Heather Mewhinney of Kriska Transportation Group. Mewhinney has helped Kriska integrate 12 acquisitions over the past five years, and was inaugural co-chairwoman of Truckers Against Trafficking when it came to Canada.

Applications for the 2022 Top Fleet Employers Program are now open. The program has grown substantially and continues to raise HR standards in the sector.
