The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Integrated Border Enforcement Team discovered 189 kg of cocaine in a commercial truck crossing the border at Coutts, Alta.

The Integrated Border Enforcement Team is a joint force operation between the RCMP, CBSA, and Calgary Police Services. The drugs were discovered during a secondary examination on Nov. 13 and have a value of $2 million, CBSA said in a release.

“I want to commend our CBSA officers who prevent illegal narcotics from breaching our borders and disrupt crime networks,” said Ben Tame, director, Southern Alberts and Southern Saskatchewan District, CBSA.

“In cooperation with our law enforcement partners, the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service, this significant seizure serves as another example of how Canada’s borders are being secured and drugs are kept off our streets.”

  • We also need to deport these drug carriers after conviction . The slap on the wrist by our present judicial system does nothing to defer these low life’s from offending again , and the money they make is too appealing for so little penalty they receive after getting caught . Canadians need to wake up and kick ass , not rationalize ” they didn’t know it was in the van , didn’t know that white powder wasn’t salt , we were told friends were eagerly awaiting these presents ” or equally feeble defense excuses our courts accept , and hands sympathetic sentences that encourage re-offending . • So if it is not a new canadian ” steering wheel holder” Would you give them the benefit of the doubt. Do you truly find it inconceivable that somebody might hide something within a full load. A criminal organization that is smuggling millions of dollars worth of coke does not really need the cooperation of the driver to succeed. At least try and put yourself in the shoes of the driver and imagine what it might be like to have to spend days or weeks in jail. While your family scrambles to get the money for a lawyer. There are many cases when these drivers
have been found to be innocent of Anything other than working for the wrong company. Don’t be too quick to condemn everybody who comes from a different country to work here.
